Research interests

I am the departmental Placements Tutor for Chemistry and the Director of Undergraduate Laboratory Teaching. I lecture in Organic Chemistry and Drug Discovery. My Postdoctoral research focussed on the synthesis of fluorescent and electrochemical sensors for biomedical applications with industrial partners for uses such DNA detection and blood sugar level monitoring and this has shaped my interests in the application of synthetic organic chemistry to healthcare challenges.

I'm active in Widening Participation and Outreach activities.

Research Interests

My current research interests are in the areas of novel anti-MRSA drugs and targetted anti-cancer drugs that utilise reversible cyclisation to become activated in the tumor cell. My other area of interest is in the development of new tunable fluorophores with orthogonal sites of attachment to biological targets.
