Personal profile

Research interests

I am and Academic Rheumatologist and split my time equally between clinical practice and research. I have a longstanding interest in autoantibodies and the autoimmune connective tissue diseases, particularly myositis. I am a member of the International Myositis Assessment and Clinical Studies Group where I am deputy chair of the Autoantibodies Scientific Interest Group and serve on the Scientific Committee. I am a board member of the European Consensus Findings Study Group also known as the EULAR autoantibody study group. My research focusses on novel autoantibody discovery and testing accuracy. My laboratory team provide a specialist diagnostic autoantibody testing service to the NHS and other providers. I am passionate about integrating research into clinical practice to improve clinical services and deliver better patient care. I run a dedicated myositis clinic with integrated physiotherapy assessment and collection of patient reported outcome measures. My clinical practice provides not only a valuable context to my research but an opportunity to appreciate the limitations in our current understanding of disease and where research can have maximal clinical impact.
