Personal profile

Research interests

I am interested in how businesses communicate their social and environmental responsibilities, responsibly. I am particularly interested in communications that take place in a digital context.

I have projects underway on: 1) Brand responsibilities and influencer marketing; 2) Online safety and content moderation in platform organisations; 3) The ethics of algorithmic / automated and micro-targeted advertising. I am currently exploring themes of emotion, humour, dialogue and legitimacy within my research. I am a qualitative researcher and I work largely with discourse analysis and social media data.

I am on the Editorial Board of Business and Society and I review for journals including Organization, Business Ethics Quarterly, Journal of Business Ethics, amongst others. I attend the following conferences: Academy of Management (AoM) (Social Issues in Management track), CSR Communication International Conference, European Group of Organisation Studies (EGOS) and International Association of Business and Society (IABS).

Following a background in industry, I also have cross-functional commercial experience and an interest in building connections with industry.

Willing to supervise doctoral students

I welcome enquiries from prospective PhD students who are interested in pursuing a PhD related to themes highlighted above. If you have an interesting idea, please do send me a research proposal along with a copy of your CV.
