Personal profile

Research interests

My research interests lie in qualitative approaches to understanding the enablers and barriers to social work practice. This includes:

  • Translation of law, policy and research to practice;
  • Mental capacity;
  • Supported/ing decision making;
  • What support is desired and beneficial from the perspective of those who have need to draw on social work support / social care.

Teaching interests

I have been employed as a lecturer at the University of Bath since September 2022.

Prior to this, my employment history as a registered social worker spanned a period of nineteen years, working with people across the life course. Having qualified in 2003, I worked exclusively in statutory roles across children and adult services. This included working in a community care team; children with disabilities team; specialist transition team; adult learning disability teams; focused intervention team; generic adults teams.

I bring this practice experience into my teaching on the Social Work & Applied Social Studies programme, teaching across all three years.

Professional membership

I am a registered social worker with Social Work England (SW2938).

Willing to supervise doctoral students

I am interested in supervising work that has synergy with:

  • Adult social work;
  • Mental capacity;
  • Supported/ing decision making;
  • Translation of law, policy and research to practice.
