Dr
Dr. Raouf Alebshehy is a public health consultant with a background in medicine and healthcare reform. He currently manages the Tobacco Tactics team, part of the Tobacco Control Research Group at the University of Bath and a partner in the global watchdog network STOP. In this role, he leads a team dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness of tobacco control policies by monitoring and countering the influence of the tobacco industry.
Dr. Alebshehy has extensive experience in international public health policy, having worked with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. His expertise spans planning, managing, monitoring, and evaluating health programs across various domains, including communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), health systems development, health promotion, and quality management. He also has hands-on experience as a primary healthcare physician and has coordinated health projects with public sector entities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and UN agencies.
Academically, Dr. Alebshehy holds several degrees relevant to his field, including qualifications in medicine, quality management, public health, research ethics, and nutrition. His education was acquired from prestigious institutions in Egypt, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany.
Dr. Alebshehy's contributions to public health and tobacco control have been widely recognized. He received the WHO World No Tobacco Day Award in 2024. He was honored with the Recognising Excellence Award from the University of Bath in 2022, 2023, and 2024, and was highly commended for the Vice-Chancellor's Engage Awards for Public Engagement in 2023. He received the WHO Director-General Special Award in 2022 and the University of Bath's Doctoral Recognition Award in 2024 as part of the TCRG team. Earlier in his career, he was awarded the John Griffith Prize from the University of Leeds in 2016.
