Personal profile
Research interests
I am a Lecturer in the Department of Social and Policy Sciences. My work is interested in what happens after societies experience violence. I am interested in social and political cultures in transitional and post-conflict settings, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. My doctoral research connects intersectional, affective, spatial and intergenerational narrations of memories of violence to historical injustice in South Africa, with a focus on participatory methodologies. My PhD is entitled Between Recognition and Resistance: Navigating memories of violence and injustice in Hillbrow and Constitution Hill.
I have previously worked on the Horizon 2020 Disputed Territories and Memory (DisTerrMem) project between 2019 - 2023. Presently, I am contributing to two projects on contested memory and postcoloniality.
Wider teaching and research interests in qualitative and participatory methodologies, human rights, transitional justice, violence and state violence, peacebuilding and humanitarianism, race and ethnicity, historical injustice, youth and gender, legacies of colonialism and decolonisation.
I am an accredited Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). I completed my MA Conflict Resolution in Divided Societies at King's College London, then moved to the University of Bath for my ESRC-funded 1+3 MRes/PhD Security, Conflict and Human Rights.
