Research Interests

  • marine acoustics and innovating imaging
  • seabed and habitat mapping
  • ambient noise underwater
  • marine renewable energies
  • space imaging (planetary and asteroid studies, situational awareness, space debris)

Remote Sensing benefits greatly from Physics, and I am applying this primarily to underwater acoustics and studies of the marine environments. Building up on earlier work with planetary imagery, I am also interested in how similar approaches can be used to study asteroids or space debris. Both strands of research are strongly experimental in flavour. For marine studies, we use our own tank facilities and translate this research into open water anywhere around the world (I have worked in all oceans except the Antarctic).

I am co-founder and Deputy Director of CSAOS, the Centre for Space, Atmospheric and Oceanic Science, and associated to the Water Innovation and Research Centre (WIRC) and the Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment (I-SEE).

Motivated applications for postgraduate studies or postdoctoral research are always welcome.
