Personal profile

Research interests

  • underwater acoustics: innovative sonars and passive acoustics
  • seabed and habitat mapping
  • marine soundscapes, especially in the rapidly-changing Arctic
  • de-risking Offshore Renewable Energies by using acoustic tools
  • space imaging (situational awareness, space debris)

My research is highly experimental, designing new tools (multi-aspect sonars, multi-sensor platforms), using them in the field (I have worked in all oceans, except the Antarctic) and using very large datasets of underwater sounds. Right now, I am working on human impacts and biodiversity, especially in the Arctic ocean; acoustic sensing in confined environments and the sounds of shipping in ice-covered waters.

My research impacts are demonstrated by Knowledge Transfer projects with industry leaders, the development of new international standards and increasing use of my results as scientific evidence in international policies.
