Personal profile

Research interests

I conduct comparative research on the influence of global culture on policies, organizational structures, and practices in secondary schools and universities. I currently study:

  • immigrant integration policies,
  • the working conditions of teaching staff,
  • curriculum reforms based on globalizing pedagogies,
  • and the adoption of evaluation practices such as student evaluation of teaching.

I specialize in the sociology of education, comparative education, higher education, and organization studies. I am fluent in both quantitative and qualitative methods and have expertise in comparative research.

I have a degree in Psychology, a Dr. Phil. in Education from the Humboldt University of Berlin and a Habilitation in Sociology from the University of Kassel. I also have been visiting researcher at Stanford University and the University of Lugano. Before I became an academic, I gained work experience as a human resources manager, as an educational consultant and schoolteacher.
