Personal profile

Research interests

My research is on 3D printing interactive devices. Founded on principles of tangibility, physical computing and organic user interfaces, our interactions with the digital world are limited by flat rectangular screens. Interaction through devices with form custom to their function will enable us to interact with digital information in the same way as we would hold objects in the real world. 3D printing is the conduit to this vision, enabling on-demand, configurable design of devices and electronics.

Teaching interests

I am passionate about disseminating knowledge within Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and the processes that underly how we interact with computers. My teaching is grounded in cutting edge research to be able to systematically explore this rapidly growing field.

Other responsibilities

I run Bath's internal HCI research seminar series and internal peer review. I am co-leading the physical computing subgroup to enable knowledge transfer between researchers on how to construct devices.

Willing to supervise doctoral students

I am open to supervising new doctoral students. I am keen to supervise any doctorate on tangible interactive devices. Specifically, I am looking for projects relating to enabling the fabrication of interactive devices and developing appropriate material and 3D printing technology. I am also looking for students interested in the interplay between augmented reality and tangibles.
