Research interests

I am interested in the experimental modelling of gas turbine fluid dynamic phenomena with a view to scale experimental measurements from rig to engine operating conditions. Specific topics of interest include:

  • Fluid dynamics and heat transfer in turbine secondary air systems
  • Film and internal cooling
  • Interaction between main and egress flow paths in high pressure turbines with end-wall contouring
  • The use of thermochromic liquid crystals and infrared thermography for flow visualisation and heat transfer measurements

My research is conducted with the following key objectives:

  • To further scientific understanding within the gas turbine and wider academic communities through publication
  • Assisting engine designers in their goal of improving gas turbine operating efficiency
