Research interests

Having worked in education technology for more than twenty years, and coming from a family of teachers, I have witnessed significant change in both the education landscape and the application of technology within teaching, learning, and assessment.

I completed my Master's dissertation in Entrepreneurship Management and Innovation by examining the extent to which organisational power affects areas of corporate entrepreneurship and innovative behaviour. One notable influence is the perspective and experience of individuals who have disproportionate effects on the overall culture and direction of the organisation.

As a technologist/educationalist, I am fascinated by the apparent paradox between ever-increasing technological development and the relatively modest impact on education practice. In the 2020s, this is particularly relevant when PISA results suggest a correlation between the rise of AI use and a decline in academic performance.

My current focus of research is to apply models of technology adoption and diffusion of innovation not in corporate environments but in teaching and learning settings. The role of the practitioner, in particular their psychological and personality traits, may prove significant in how (and if) technology is adopted in practice.
