Research interests
Matthew Wickens is a Senior Teaching Fellow and the Director of Studies for the MArch programme, and 4th Year BSc Design Studio Co-ordinator.
He has previosuly been 1st Year BSc Design Studio Co-ordinator and tutored in 6th Year (Year 2 of the MArch programme). He has also been Director of Studies for BSc Architecture.
Matthew is a qualified architect and prior to joining the University of Bath he worked in London for Rick Mather Architects on cultural and academic projects, often in historical listed contexts. These included the Stirling Prize shortlisted Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, as well as a new library & archive for The Queen's College, Oxford, and a new library for Christ's College, Cambridge. Other competition schemes included Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond VA and New York Public Library.
Matthew studied at the University of Bath. He has also studied at l'Ecole d'Architecture de Lille and the Bartlett. His student work was nominated for both the RIBA Silver Medal and the RIBA Dissertation Prize. He was awarded an RIBA commendation for his Dissertation entitled 'The Modern House in Bath - Peter Womersley's Valley Spring'.
