Dr Maria Giamouzi is a lecture at the Department of Economics at the University of Bath, since September 2020.

Maria holds a PhD in Finance from the Bayes Business School. Maria’s research is central to applied econometrics, finance, asset pricing, financial economics and behavioural finance. She examines how characteristics and models of the term structure of freight rates in the dry bulk sector of the shipping industry can enhance the profitability of ship chartering strategies. She also studies the dynamic interactions between the term structure of freight rates and macroeconomic factors in order to assess the impact of these factors and identify which are the most important ones in terms of explaining freight rates across the maturity spectrum. She also analyses ship-owners’ preferences during their decision-making process such as the nature of the risk and return relationship under different market conditions, risk measures and risk attitudes.
