Research interests

Mac Geoffrey is currently a PhD candidate from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath, sponsored by the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (AAPS CDT). His research focuses on using ultrasound non-destructive evaluation (NDE) to investigate the state of charge (SoC) of lithium-polymer (LiPo) batteries (i.e., a type of lithium-ion batteries). The work is supervised by Dr Christopher Vagg and Dr Charles Courtney from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Key external activities that enriched his doctoral studies included an academic secondment with the Argüelles Research Group from the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics of Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA (from Jun-23 to Sep-23), and an environmental acoustics consulting internship with AECOM in London, UK (from Sep-24 to Dec-24).
