Research interests

My research interests lie in higher education policy, globalisation and internationalisation of higher education, university rankings and their impact on policymaking and institutional behaviour, higher education in Europe, researcher development and doctoral education. My research has been published in academic journals including Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education, Contemporary Social Science, Higher Education, Innovations in Education and Teaching International and Tertiary Education and Management and publicised in media outlets such as the BBCthe Guardian, University World News, and Times Higher Education. I am a member of the editorial board of the journal Innovations in Education and Teaching International

I am an Associate Professor in Higher Education Management (HEM) at Bath. I was also the Director of Higher Education Management Programmes, including the Bath DBA in Higher Education Management, and a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Education. Prior to joining Bath, I was a Research Centre Associate of the Department of Education at the University of Oxford (Centre for Global Higher Education - CGHE) and Senior Research Associate at the University College London Institute of Education (also based in CGHE). I have held academic positions at the College of Europe, the universities of Glasgow and Oxford, Trinity College Dublin and UCL.

Beyond academia, I have worked in both the public and private sectors for the European Commission in Brussels and Quacquarelli Symonds in London, where I am currently serving as Secretary to the QS Global Rankings Advisory Board. I am an invited Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I obtained a college-funded PhD in Education (Higher Education) from Trinity College Dublin.

Willing to supervise doctoral students

I am interested in supervising students on the DBA in Higher Education Management in topics related to higher education policy, globalisation and internationalisation of higher education, student mobility, the entrepreneurial university and the building of a European higher education area.
