Leah Murphy (Ní Mhurchú) joined the CPPM in 2019 as part of the Proteus interdisciplinary research collaboration. Her PhD focusses on fabricating optical fibres for therapeutic applications, specifically endoscopic ablation. She is particularly interested in hollow core fibre optics and developing ways to fabricate novel fibre microstructures. Prior to her PhD, Leah carried out her Masters research at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, studying materials which could be used to construct temperature-sensitive microcapsules for drug delivery.

Leah’s PhD is under the supervision of Jim Stone, and funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
