Personal profile

Research interests

My research interest illuminates the role parents and primary caregivers play in enhancing children’s educational development. With a particular focus on preventative safeguarding strategies to mitigate against grooming in non-familial contexts. My doctoral research focused on this topic and challenged the traditional deficit model that isolates parents from children’s safeguarding education.

I would like to enhance this research in two directions. Firstly, I would like to engage with sporting clubs and community organisations to increase their safeguarding practices. Secondly, I would like to consider other areas in educational practice that undervalue the key role parents play in their child’s development. Which could include developing opportunities to celebrate multi-lingualism and home languages in school communities. This research is especially interested in families who have English as an Additional Language (EAL) and the level of engagement they have with their child’s school.
