Previous roles have included Reader and Senior Lecturer (Bath Spa University), John Adams Research Fellow (IOE, London), Curriculum Leader and Teaching Fellow (University of Bath). I have also been a Partnership Adviser for the Learning and Skills Council, an English language teacher and in-company trainer, and held research and workforce development positions in four local authorities in England and Wales.
I have externally examined EdD and PhD students at various universities in the UK and internationally. I am Associate Editor and former Editor (2022-23) of the Journal of Vocational Education and Training, and a member of the editorial boards of the British Journal of Educational Studies, Curriculum Journal, the International Journal of Training and Development and the Journal of Education and Work. I was also previously on the editorial advisory board of the Internationale Berufsbildungforschung Springer book series. I have undertaken evaluations and reviews for the European Commission, the Latvian Council of Science, the Higher Education Academy (UK), and the National Research Foundation (South Africa). I am also a Visiting Professor at the University of Derby.
