Personal profile

Research interests

My research interests combine my university education in political science with my professional experience in comparative education research. I have a background in Geopolitics (University of Dundee) and Political Science (University of British Columbia). Prior to joining the ICCS 2027 International Study Center at the University of Bath as a Research Associate in November 2024, I worked at the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and as a self-employed consultant.

I am particularly interested in changes in political attitudes, dispositions, and democratic values and the role of the school and teachers (and the education system in general) in delivering civic and citizenship education (CCE) in the context of right-wing populism. Secondary interests concern the position of ICCS in the wider field of comparative education research and research in CCE as well as capacity building in countries that currently lack the resources and/or capacity to systematically assess their education systems.

Research Interests

  • International large-scale assessments (ICCS, TIMSS, ICILS)
