Accepting Doctoral Students

Personal profile

Research interests

Dr Ioannis Katsivalis is a Lecturer in Structural Engineering, focusing on the damage and fracture of materials and structures, and employing both experimental and numerical methods.

Ioannis earned his PhD in Engineering from the University of Southampton in 2020, during which he also completed a two-year placement in A*STAR, Singapore. His doctoral research focused on the experimental and numerical analysis of adhesive joints in glass structures. Following his PhD, he held postdoctoral positions at the University of Cambridge, the University of Limerick, and Chalmers University of Technology, where his work spanned lightweight structures, wind energy, and decarbonisation of transport.

Ioannis is passionate about sustainable development and energy transition and his current research interests lie in bio-inspired composites, hydrogen storage tanks, and composite adhesive joints.
