Research interests
I am Professor in Politics at the University of Bath since September 2018. I previously held positions at the Free University of Brussels (VUB), Utrecht University and Victoria University of Wellington. I have also been a visiting scholar at various institutions, including the University of California Berkeley and Irvine, the University of Sydney, the Åbo Akademi University and the Leuphana University of Lüneburg.
My main research interests include political behaviour, public opinion, political representation, and gender and politics. One strand of my current works (with Marion Reiser, Ana Catalano Weeks and Sparsha Saha) investigates citizens' support for positive action measures to increase the political representation of women. I am also involved in a joint research project (with Ana Catalano Weeks, Miki Kittilson and Bonnie Meguid) investigating the representation of women in radical right populist parties and how this it linked to these parties' electoral success and gender gap in voting support. Still another project that I am working on, relies on an original dataset of all New Zealand MPs elected since 1996 and investigates how the way that women and men MPs have been elected (as list or district MP) affects the length of their careers and their roles in Parliament (with Beate Ehrhardt and Josh Givens). I am also involved in an international research project looking at intraparty competition: https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/intraparty-competition. Within the scope of this project, I am (together with Iulia Cioroianu) looking at political candidates' social networks and (with Åsa von Schoultz) at the way that women and men candidates campaign.
