I am passionate about linking HE research with teaching and learning practice to enable social justice outcomes, on the leadership which accompanies this and on the publishing practice which enables its active dissemination. Interests:social justice, research into doctoral learning and supervision, international postcolonial and decolonial developments in HE , curriculum, widening participation, teaching and learning, assessment, quality assurance, , pedadogy in the humanities and arts, writing for publication.
My HE research and leadership career began as a researcher on the ‘Enquiry in to the role of the external examiner ‘(ESRC/CNAA funded) at CHES, London university and I have successfully gained research funding as PI and Co- I on a number of projects since e.g. doctoral learning journeys (2007-11) Sir Ron Cooke international fellowship - transferring social justice practice from South Africa to the UK (HEA 2013); projects with the British Council and British Academy in Iraq (women academics and their development – til 2015) and most recently as a Co-I on a project led by Uni Bristol and Uni Johannesburg- SARiHE (https://sarihe.org.za ) on supporting and enabling the successful transition into and through university for rural students, which used a co-researcher model and creative research processes with 72 SA co researcher undergraduates in three universities. One of my main contributions beyond data gathering , presenting, writing, was to facilitate and enable the production of a booklet written by student co-researchers ‘Going to University’ pub in 11 African languages.
I supervise doctoral students on the DBA.
I teach through a mix of interactive dialogue and provision of pre reading, lectures, information to encourage critical, creative engagement.
As as practising teacher and educational developer in the UK and internationally, I am interested in research informed and underpinned teaching, students as partners and learner diversity. I teach about HE pedagoogy, doctoral learning and supervision, writing for the doctorate and for publication, and about literature (contemporary, postcolonial, Gothic, women's writing, creative writing.)
I am available to supervise students in any area related to my research and teaching experience: HE pedagogy, assessment, curriculum, social justice, decolonising the curriculum, international HE developments, quality assurance, gender, doctoral learning, supervision, writing for publication, humantiies and arts in HE. ..
