Research interests

My work focuses on the role of populist discourse and common sense narratives in reactionary and far-right politics. My article on nativism reconceptualised this important political concept, emphasising its racist logic, thus encouraging a move away from more euphemistic interpretations. This links to broader research interests in the role of populism and nativism in far right articluations of regionalist and nationalist politics. My book with Routledge Fathers of the Lega investigates the historical roots of the Italian Republic's oldest surviving political party, the far-right Lega (Nord)

Main interests:

  • The role of common sense discourse in the normalisation of far-right and reactionary politics
  • The intersection between populism, nationalism and regionalism
  • The history of the Italian Lega Nord and far-right politics in Italy
