Research interests

Fernanda Gallo is Teaching Fellow in Italian Politics at the Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies at the University of Bath. She is also collaborating with the SINERGIA research project "Milan and Ticino (1796-1848). Shaping spatiality of a European Capital", funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, as well as with the Research Network for the History of the Idea of Europe and the Society for Political Studies (Naples).  She was awarded by the SNF with the PostDoc Mobility grant for a project on Hegel's reception in Italy, that she has developed during her research periods at the Faculty of History at University of Cambridge and at the Centre for the History of Political Thought at Queen Mary University of London, where she has also taught History of Political Thought. She was Teaching Fellow in 'Citizenship and Public Opinion' and 'History of Political Thought' at the University of Lugano (Switzerland), where, in 2015 she achieved her PhD  with a thesis entitled "The longing for the missed Reformation. The Renaissance in 19th century Italian Hegelianism".She has published several journal articles and a book on Hegel's reception in Italy, state and nation building during the Risorgimento, the history of the idea of Europe and on citizenship and public opinion.
