Research interests

I enjoy combining my food engineering background with microbial biotechnology and lignocellulosic biomass conversion topics from a biorefinery perspective to increase the value of agricultural byproducts. Mainly, I have expertise in fermentation technology, lignocellulosic biomass conversion, and microbial hydrolytic enzyme production. I have broad experience in various food technology applications and unit operations. In my research career, I aim to add value to the lignocellulosic byproducts to empower the people who are in the initial chain of agricultural production, improve existing bioproducts to respond to current sustainability goals, and develop innovative solutions to protect nature.

I joined the Chemical Engineering Department in January 2023. I am currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate on the Plate to Pasture project funded by BBSRC, UKRI. In this project, I have been conducting the process steps of the oleaginous yeast medium designing by the hydrolsation of the cellulose and hemicellulose fractions of the grass and silage; yeast biomass production; intracellular lipid production and extraction; the characterisation of the components obtained through these process flows such as saccharides, fatty acids, and other nutritious compounds. It is aimed to replace commercial microbial medium with saccharides produced from grass carbohydrates, and palm oil with yeast fatty acids.

Teaching interests

I am a passionate teacher and committed to inspiring the next generation with eight years of teaching experience in food engineering subjects. I taught Food Analysis, Food Technology Applications, Graduation Thesis, and Social Responsibility Project undergraduate degree courses in the Food Engineering Department. Besides, I taught and coordinated the lab practice of Instrumental Analysis, Fermentation Technology, Food Analysis, Food Microbiology, and General Microbiology courses, and assisted Energy&Mass Balances and Process Design undergraduate engineering courses in my previous roles.
