Dr Elena Minelli joined the Department of Politics, Languages and International Studies in September 2012 as Language Co-ordinator for Italian.
After obtaining a BA (Hons) and MA in Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Bergamo (Italy), she completed an MEd in Psychology of Education at Bristol University, after which she took a transfer exam accredited by the British Psychology Society.
In 2006, she received her PhD in Gender and Translation Studies from the University of Bath.
Together with Dr Fabrizio Gallai, she is involved in the design, coordination and delivery of Italian language programmes and in the sharing and dissemination of good teaching practice across the Department.
She is responsible for the management and development of the Italian team within PoLIS and the Foreign Language Centre (FLC). In collaboration with the other Language Co-ordinators, she organises a series of seminars on foreign language teaching in the higher education sector.
Prior to becoming an Italian language coordinator, she worked at the FLC of Bath University as a Teaching Fellow and a Team Leader for Italian, and for the Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement (LTE) at Bath University as Portfolio Assessor and Portfolio Advisor for the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PgCAP).
Since 2006, she has been working for the Open University - South West and North Regions - for the design and delivery of blended teaching modules of Italian Language and Culture.
Her main research interests are in modern foreign language teaching and learning and how current research in Education and Psychology can be applied to the teaching of Modern Languages.
Another area of research interest is Translation Studies, in particular how translation can be used to explore and understand the language and the culture of written and audiovisual texts. She has published articles and delivered papers on literary and audiovisual translation.
