Dyfed Griffiths is Teaching Fellow in Architectural Studies, Director of Studies for the RIBA Part 3 Post Graduate Certificate in Professional Practice, Professional Studies Advisor and Erasmus Coordinator.
Dyfed trained at the Birmingham School of Architecture, The University of Aston gaining his combined honours Degree in Architecture and the Diploma in Architecture of the Birmingham School of Architecture. In 1983 he founded his own practice in Cambridge, where he practised until his appointment to the University of Bath in 2005.
During his time in Cambridge, he was visiting studio tutor in architecture and visiting lecturer to the postgraduate Professional Studies (RIBA Part 3) programme at the University of Cambridge from 1986 to 1990, and was an early contributor to the work of the Building Experiences Trust within Primary and Secondary School education programmes in Buildings and the Environment in Cambridge between 1988 and 1991.
Following his appointment to the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering at the University of Bath, he was appointed Director of Studies for the Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice (RIBA Part 3) and was instrumental in the development and evolution of the new Postgraduate qualification which became a formal award of the University from October 2008. He is Studio Coordinator for the Year 3 Studio programme and lectures on detail design and emerging technologies, concerned with the aesthetics of construction. He has continued to develop and evolve the academic programmes in Practice, Management and Law across the BSc (Part 1) and M.Arch (Part 2) degree curricula and lectures extensively in this subject area at the University of Bath and as an invited lecturer at other Institutions.
He is Professional Studies Advisor at Part 1 and Part 2 to the undergraduate students within the BSc and M.Arch degree programmes respectively and is Placements Tutor to the B.Sc 2nd and 3rd year students. He is the Department Coordinator for the Erasmus Exchange Programme and administers the academic studies of outgoing 3rd year Bath undergraduates and those of the incoming undergraduates from corresponding partner Universities within the European Community.
He is sometimes visiting critic to The Welsh School of Architecture at the University of Cardiff and the Technical University, Munich, and has acted as an expert advisor to the RIBA Part 3 Programme at Oxford Brookes University. He is a Faculty Learning Group tutor for the Professional Certificate in Academic Professional Practice at the University of Bath.
Dyfed is professional examiner for the RIBA Part 3 qualification programmes at the Welsh School of Architecture, The University of Cardiff, The University of Westminster, and the RIBA Northwest Region, and is External Examiner for the Part 3 programme at London South Bank University.
He is an Independent Advisor to the Prescription Committee of the Architects Registration Board and is Independent Advisor for European Notifications to the European Committee of the Architects Registration Board in which capacity he advises upon notifications of new qualifications in architecture under the initiative of the European Professional Qualifications Directive. He is a member of the panel of UK Bologna Experts with the British Council, and is an Independent Expert for the assessment of Higher Education applications under the Erasmus+ initiative.
He is a member of the UK Higher Education International Unit’s Mobility Community of Practice and an Associate of the UK Higher Education Authority. He is also a member of the RIBA Validation panel, the RIBA Professional Education Committee and the Society of Construction Law. He remains actively involved with all matters concerned with professional practice and the enhancement of quality standards in the delivery of professional and academic programmes in architecture, and the promotion of standards and reform in Higher Education.
