Research interests

My research interests involve the development of drug delivery systems using nanofabrication approaches, underpinned by an array of physical characterisation techniques.  In particular, recent work has focused on the use of nanogels for drug and gene delivery, the development of electrospun systems for taste masking and delivery to specific target sites such as the eye, and the use of nanocrystals as a means of enhancing oral absorption.  A key element of the research programme is a series of collaborations with chemical and mechanical engineers, molecular biologists and geneticists and analytical chemists.  I am also director of two companies, DQMC Solutions, which is a consultancy company, and Gustoceutics (with Dr Hend Abdelhakim) which specialises in taste assessment using a biosensor system.
