Dr. Zhang is an IEEE senior member (EMBS, RAS, and SMC) and an IFESS lifetime member. He was a board member of IFESS, a youth commission member of ISBE. He serves in 3 technical committees of EMBS and SMC. He is an associate editor (or editorial board member) of 5 journals: IEEE Access, IEEE Trans. Human-Machine Systems, Scientific Reports, Frontiers in Neuroscience, and Frontiers in Neurorobotics.

His research interests include Rehabilitation Robotics, Neural Technologies, Brain-Computer Interfaces, and Robotic Exoskeletons.
