Research interests

My research interest is predominantly in the area of academic writing utilising the methodology of corpus linguistics. I have also been exploring the effectiveness of data-driven learning (DDL) drawing on self-compiled corpora and how this approach can be usefully implemented in wider English for Academic Purposes (EAP) settings to enhance students’ knowledge and productive use of disciplinary academic writing conventions across different disciplines and levels of academic study. 

I am currently involved in The British Academic Written English Secondary School (BAWESS) corpus project, which explores the role of language in representing knowledge in different disciplines with a particular focus on the writing required for standardised high-stakes exams such as the iGCSE/GCSE, A Level and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
