Personal profile

Research interests

My scientific reseach background focused on cardiovascular disease. I obtained my PhD in Cardiovascular Science from the University of Bristol in 2006, and continued to work in the same department for just over 10 years as a post-doctoral researcher. My research was focused on the effects of a cell-cell adhesion molecule (N-cadherin) on vascular smooth muscle cell behaviour – the aim being to develop and validate a therapeutic for cardiovascular disease.

As a lecturer on the Teaching and Scholarship Pathway, I am currently actively engaged in pedagogic research. I am particularly interested in how active engagement with feedback can guide a student's skills development using an ePortfolio. In addition, I have an interest in active learning techniques, including Team Based Learning, and how we can increase the inclusivity of these teaching approaches in the Biosciences.

Teaching interests

I am a senior lecturer and Director of Studies for the Biomedical Sciences programmes.

My current role has also given me the opportunity to supervise undergraduate research projects (education based) and personal tutoring.

I was awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2020, and Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy in 2024.
