Research interests

My research focuses on host and environmental microbiomes in the aquatic environment. I typically work with marine invertebrates, including those that are important for global food production. I'm interested in how symbiotic microbes interact and evolve, and what determines microbiome composition, more generally. This work emphasises the importance of unicellular eukaryotes (i.e., protists), including those involved in parasitism. I am currently using single-cell sequencing to better characterise protist biodiversity and evolution, and using this information to better inform One Health principles.
