Personal profile
Research interests
My research interests lie in Education and International Development, Education and Conflict, Education in Emergencies (EiE), Higher Education, Refugee Education, and Peacebuilding.
I draw largely on post-colonial and decolonial thinking, engage in reflexivity about dynamics of power and marginalisation and promote a greater interdisciplinary collaboration so that the multidimensionality of human embodied experience and its interrelationship with oppressive structures can be adequately understood and addressed.
Philosophically speaking, I am drawn to the ontological and epistemological orientation of Critical Realism (CR) for its consistency with critical-emancipatory social science traditions and its alignment with decolonial studies and other counter-hegemonic projects. I am interested in exploring the potential of CR to advance more critical nuanced decolonial engagements.
I am open to supervising PhD students in the following areas:
- Education and International Development (Topics grappling with education's humanitarian or developmental role in the Global South. This could include: education access, provision, quality, inequalities..etc.)
- Education in Conflict Settings and Emergencies
- Education for Peacebuilding and Post-conflict Recovery
- Decolonising HE in the Global North and Global South
- The Role of Education for Social Change
- Peace Education/ Global citizenship education
