Personal profile

Research interests

I focus my research on challenging questions of societal relevance, such as interrogating the boundaries of the firm, investigating new organizational forms, and exploring the implications of algorithmic management on entrepreneurship. I am particularly interested in examining the microfoundations of institutional changes in the context of the sharing economy and studying their implications for entrepreneurship. Theoretically, my research sits at the intersection of organizational theory, strategy, and entrepreneurship. Methodologically, I employ a range of qualitative approaches, including grounded theory, process theorizing, and inductive case-based theorizing. My projects are based in a range of new organizational contexts which include both multi-sided platforms, such as Uber and Amazon, and online communities.

I have published in the Strategic Management Journal (2020), Research in the Sociology of Organizations (2018; 2019), and the Journal of Business Ethics (2019). In addition, my co-authors and I also have published a book, Emotions in Organization Theory (2019), as part of the new Cambridge Elements Book Series. I was part of a select group awarded the ABCD “Above and Beyond the Call of Duty” Reviewer Award Winner by the Organization and Management Theory (OMT) Division at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting (2016). I am an ad hoc reviewer for the following journals: Organization Studies, Business & Society, Strategic Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, and ILR Review.
