Research interests
Dr. Anlan Chen is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Her research sits at the intersection of Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation. Her early work focused on the role of innovation in shaping firms' operational strategies and their strategic adaptations to external environments. More recently, Anlan’s research has shifted towards investigating firm growth at different stages of entrepreneurship. For example, she has explored the growth paths of international start-ups within University Innovation and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems. She has also investigated the value propositions of SMEs and the mechanisms of value creation within social enterprises and the cultural and creative industries.
Anlan collaborates closely with business practitioners and highly values cross-disciplinary research partnerships. She is dedicated to producing impactful research that influences policy and shapes future business practices.
Anlan’s current research focuses on the following areas:
- Growth trajectories of new ventures and start-ups within University Innovation and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems
- SME growth and development within the cultural and creative industries
- Corporate entrepreneurship in incumbent firms (e.g., Social Enterprises)
