Accepting Doctoral Students

Personal profile

Research interests

My research focuses on improving the implementation and scale-up of health and social policies and interventions in practice.

Current research focuses on:

  • Developing evidence-informed guidance supporting social care volunteers in South African communities to adapt and implement interventions from other countries;
  • Understanding what helps and hinders the implementation and enforcement of tobacco control policies in low-and-middle-income countries;
  • Systematically assessing the influence of external contextual factors on the implementation and scale-up of interventions, such as the policy context, the physical environment, or the cultural and socio-economic context;
  • Exploring innovative complex systems and causal approaches and methods in implementation science and practice (e.g., causal mapping, realist approaches, Qualitative Comparative Analysis).

I work in the UK and across different European and low- and middle-income countries. I enjoy working across discplines, sectors and countries, and consider myself an applied, pragmatic, mixed-methods researcher.

Teaching interests

I am primarily teaching on the MSc Global Public Health and Policy.

My teaching focuses on implementation and scale-up of policies and interventions, health services and systems, systems thinking, and research and evaluation methods (primarily qualitative and mixed methods).

I am supervising UG and PG dissertations in social policy, international development, and global public health and policy.

Willing to supervise doctoral students

I would be looking to supervise doctoral student projects in the area of implementation science.
