Adam Bertscher is a PhD candidate in the Tobacco Control Research Group at University of Bath. His research focuses on the political and commercial determinants of health. His work examines how commercial industries influence policy, specifically regarding risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as tobacco, alcohol, and unhealthy foods.

He also teaches on undergraduate and graduate courses on International Development, and lectures on health policy for Health and Exercise Science undergraduates at University of Bath.

Prior to beginning his PhD, Adam worked on public policy issues concerning South Africa, the UK, and European Union at universities and policy research organisations. His work has covered mostly health related topics, including: international human rights law and global health, evaluation of disease control programmes, healthcare, food policy, impact research, and foresight research for antimicrobial resistance.

Adam was former Secretary to the Framework Convention on Global Health (FCGH) Alliance, a Geneva-based NGO that advocates for an international treaty based on the right to health. He holds an MPH and BSocSci from University of Cape Town, and a BA honours from University of South Africa.
