Contested Sovereignty: A Global Compilation of Sovereignty Referendums (1776-2012)

This dataset contains the data files, codebook and replication files for the paper, "Contested Sovereignty: Mapping Referendums on Sovereignty over Time and Space." It contains information on 602 sovereignty referendums from 1776–2012. The dataset uses an improved conceptualization and theory-driven typology to overcome issues of vagueness, inconsistent coding, ad hoc categorizations and incomplete coverage known to affect earlier datasets on this topic.
