Description
paper presented: “Entrepreneurs as Scientists: From Popperian Principles to Feyerabend’s Freedom” co-authored with Henrik Berglund and Akhil Bhardwaj. This study aims to expand the analogy between entrepreneurs and scientists beyond the conceptualization of the latter as falsificationists. To that end, we present accounts of science developed by philosophers of science who diverged in their views from Popper – Kuhn, Lakatos, Feyerabend, and Laudan. We draw parallels between these accounts and the current research on entrepreneurship as well as innovation. We note the limitations of a falsificationist view of how progress in science obtains noting that scientists often persist even when their theories have been “falsified”, and explore how that extends to entrepreneurship. We particularly emphasize the potential of Larry Laudan’s work to deepen our understanding of how entrepreneurs engage in problem formulation to build their theories of value creation and value capture. In doing so, we advance “entrepreneurs as theorists” perspective developed by Felin and Zenger.Period | 10 Jan 2025 |
