Description

In January 2023 I was invited (I accepted) to serve on the University Major Research Equipment Fund Review Panel. The panel was convened to evaluate and prioritise funding applications by research teams across the University to the central fund of ~£820k for significant research equipment. Only applications for individual pieces of equipment worth over £75,000 were eligible. This equipment is crucial for advancing the university's research capabilities across various disciplines. Our collective expertise on the panel allowed us to assess the scientific merit, strategic importance, and potential impact of each funding proposal. We carefully considered the alignment of the requested equipment with the university's broader research goals, as well as its potential to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.
