Presentation delivered at the inaugural Artificial Intelligence in Education at Oxford University (AIEOU) conference in September 2025. The presentation examined differences between guided and unguided uses of generative artificial intelligence in English as a Foreign Language writing tasks. It considered how the level of pedagogical structure provided to students shapes their engagement with AI, the quality of their written work, and the development of critical AI literacy. The session also addressed implications for task design, teacher guidance, academic integrity, and the responsible integration of generative AI into language education.
