Description

This study takes the generation and application of the animation "The Origin of the Loong Boat Festival" as a case, exploring the role and value of artificial intelligence in the overseas dissemination of Chinese traditional culture. The research points out that traditional written or oral narratives often struggle to overcome language and cognitive differences in cross-cultural contexts, making it difficult to achieve deep cultural understanding and emotional resonance. Leveraging the semantic decomposition and emotion recognition capabilities of large language models, the research team transformed the history of the Loong Boat Festival and the story of Qu Yuan into four progressive narrative units. Combined with AI image generation, emotional dynamic rendering, and multilingual subtitles, this created an intuitive and immersive audiovisual experience. At a Loong Boat Festival craft workshop held in Bath, UK, in 2025, this animation was combined with interactive craft making, providing overseas participants with a cross-cultural communication path of "watching-experiencing-recreating". Survey results showed that the animation significantly outperformed traditional communication methods in terms of information clarity, emotional resonance, and cultural memory retention. Over 80% of respondents indicated that after watching, they were more willing to delve into the history and modern practices of the Loong Boat Festival. The research indicates that artificial intelligence can effectively enhance the effectiveness of cross-cultural communication within the closed loop of "visual presentation-narrative logic-interactive optimization-cultural experience", providing an innovative path for the international dissemination of Chinese traditional festivals.
